In a time of constant connection and information consumption, the rise of podcast popularity has escalated at an insane level. Since I am always on the go, podcasts have become an ideal way for me to consume content and with my favorite podcasts right at my fingertips, I’m able to listen to an entire episode in the car or while working out!
The best part about it is that after listening, not only do I feel completely inspired or like I learned something new, but I can then share that new information with Gav, my friends or even coworkers. Sometimes the discussion that follows is even better than the podcast itself.
There are so many different podcasts out there, so no matter what you’re interested in or passionate about, there is something out there for you. So, whether you’re already into podcasts or are new to them, I’ve put together a list of my favorites to share with you!
Serial was first recommended to me by a couple of coworkers and ultimately what intrigued me about podcasts in the first place. Serial is an award winning podcast co-created and co-produced by Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder and developed by This American Life.
Each season dives into love, death, justice and truth. Season 1 investigated the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, an 18-year-old student at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland. The case was immediately treated as a homicide and Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Masud Syed, was found guilty. To this day, people don’t believe Syed is guilty.
Season 2 focused on Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, an American Army soldier who was held for five years by the Taliban, and then charged with desertion.
Season 3 has just been released, so if any of the above sounds interesting to you, get to listening!
I’ve been listening to this podcast for only a month, but put simply, they interview some of the most successful entrepreneurs and how they made it to where they are today. If you are interested in entrepreneurship, or just need a little extra motivation, this is the podcast for you. Each and every episode is packed with valuable life lessons and constant inspiration.
Gwyneth Paltrow and goop’s CCO, Elise Loehnen, chat with culture changers and industry disruptors – from doctors and CEO’s to spiritual healers (I mean, her first episode is with Oprah!) – about shifting from old ways of thinking to starting new conversations.
A favorite episode of mine is the episode called “It’s Normal to Occasionally Hate Your Spouse.” Family therapist, Terry Real has shares his tips on how to avoid divorce as well as how he coaches couples through struggles with intimacy, honesty, and transparency.
If you like TED talks, this podcast is for you. Picture multiple TED Talks focused on one subject mixed in with interviews of experts on each subject. It’s hosted by Guy Raz and is a great listen if you really want to stimulate your brain. All of the episodes are extremely engaging and touch on controversial topics ranging from how to effectively raise children and politics to hip hop & rare clouded leopards.
I’ve been pretty obsessed with Lauryn Evarts from the blog The Skinny Confidential for a while now and was so excited for her and her husband Michael to come out with a podcast. I love the way that Michael and Lauryn are never afraid to cover a topic on their show.
Start with: Be Well by Kelly, Part 1 and Part 2. I read Kelly LeVeque’s book about nutrition earlier this year, and it really brought understanding to what a healthy & balanced diet looks like.
