Hi fam and happy Monday! I know it’s been a while since I last posted, and not to make excuses, but things have been a little insane these last couple of weeks. Gavin and I recently moved again (we are loving our new place!), and I also had to get my laptop fixed, which if you’re an Apple product owner, you know is a nightmare all in it’s own. But here I am, back at it and so so ready to share some of my favorite day and night time skin care products that I’m absolutely loving at the moment.
Before we just dive in, I just want to say thank you for sticking with me and understanding when I don’t post as frequently. Life can get overwhelming at times and lately, I’ve really been trying to focus on myself and putting my health and happiness first. While this is not easy for me, sometimes that means taking a step away from social media. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my blog and sharing all my favorite things with friends, family, and my readers, but I feel like social media can take away from personal experiences and genuine relationships and those are truly important to me. So again, thank you for understanding when I need to take a little social media hiatus every now and again. It really means a lot.
Now, let’s get into the good stuff! If you know me or have been reading my blog for some time now, you know that one of my passions is skin care. I am obsessed with taking proper care of your skin and I will try almost every beauty trend once. I am a huge product junkie but while I love learning about new beauty tools or trendy products, I seem to keep going back to the same ones that seem to produce the best results for me and my skin. My routine may not be for you, we are all different and have different skin types, but I love sharing what works for me in case they also work for you and you love them as much as I do!
Ice Molds + Witch Hazel
You’ve heard me talk about these Tovolo ice molds so many times now, but they are my go-to beauty product each and every morning. I mix 2 teaspoons of Thayer’s Witch Hazel with filtered water and freeze overnight. Icing is so good for blood circulation and getting rid of puffy eyes while witch hazel is a natural alcohol-free toner.
You may have read all about the benefits of Vitamin C serum here, and again, it’s a go-to for me every single day. I put this on right after icing and before sunscreen. I order this one off of Amazon.
If you’re on social media I’m sure you’re aware of jade rolling and it’s latest beauty craze, but honestly, the benefits of jade rolling are too great to go unrecognized. I keep my jade roller in the freezer over night and use it every morning in an upward motion. Jade rolling is a great way to reduce puffiness and inflammation as well as increasing blood circulation. The greatest part of all? Jade rollers are fairly inexpensive and easy to find. I got mine from Amazon for under $10.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to wear sunscreen and by now you know that I’m obsessed with all of the Supergoop! products. The Unseen Sunscreen is an absolute staple in my routine and I love that it’s translucent and goes on so smooth. I use this as my makeup primer, but wear it even on days I don’t wear makeup.
You’ve maybe read all my favorite uses for coconut oil here, but my all time favorite use for it is as a facial cleanser. I have super dry skin and growing up it was so hard to find a cleanser that wouldn’t dry out my skin. Coconut oil not only melts your makeup right off your face, but it’s naturally antibacterial which helps decrease breakouts. So even if you’re someone with oily skin, coconut oil is the perfect cleanser. I like to apply the coconut oil straight to a dry face of makeup and massage it into my face watching the makeup melt off and then finish with water to remove any remaining coconut oil or makeup.
While coconut oil gets the majority of my makeup off, I like to put a little micellar water on a cotton round to finish off the job. Micellar water is great because it’ll take off any remaining coconut oil or makeup without leaving your face feel like it has a residue all over it. The greatest part is that you’re not using harsh chemicals on your skin!
Again, witch hazel is a natural alcohol-free toner without harsh chemicals. It helps reduce acne, tones your skin without drying it out, and it minimizes damage from sun exposure and fight early signs of aging. Honestly, what more could you want in a toner?
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me post about these in my stories the other day. I’m obsessed with pretty much all of Dr. Dennis Gross’ products but the Alpha Beta Daily Peel is a must-have. This daily peel is formulated to treat three common signs of aging: uneven tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and enlarged pores, with five acids – without causing irritation. It also helps if you’re someone that’s acne prone.
Once my face is clean and dry, it’s time to microneedle. Microneedling is good for so many reasons, and while at first I was skeptical of this trending beauty secret, it really seems to work for me. It is minimally invasive and doesn’t really hurt. I roll it all over my face (avoiding the thin skin right under my eyes) for about 1 minute. Some of the benefits of microneedling include:
- Reduces wrinkles and fine lines. The loss of elastin and collagen cause thinning, sagging skin, and facial wrinkles.
- Improves Scars. Micro-needling is proven to diminish the look of surgery and acne scars.
- Reduces Appearance of Stretch Marks.
- Prevents Signs of Aging.
I do recommend cleaning your microneedle every time before using it by running it through a little rubbing alcohol. If not cleaned often or properly you may break out.
After microneedling, I apply hyaluronic acid serum all over my face. Hyaluronic acid is good for you for a few reasons: as body collagen declines, the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration becomes more visible. Maximizing collagen levels will keep skin supple. Hyaluronic acid keeps collagen synthesis up, as well as retaining skin moisture, contributing to the anti-aging benefits to the skin.
To be honest with you, I haven’t found an eye cream that I’m married to yet, but I do love this one by iS Clinical. It’s a bit on the pricey side, so if you’re looking for something a little more affordable, I also like this one by Tru Skin.
Shani Darden Retinol Reform
One of my all-time favorite beauty products was created by my friend Shani Darden. Shani is a celebrity esthetician and is such a beautiful person both inside and out! Her Retinol Reform is an unmatched over-the-counter retinol serum that I swear by! To learn more about retinol, click here.
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask
Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores are two famous Instagram bloggers that recently came out with a new company called Summer Fridays. Their new Jet Lag mask is everything people say it is and more. I’ve been using it since they launched and love the way it makes my skin look and feel. You can use it as a makeup primer, but I like to use it at night as my moisturizer and the last part of my nightly routine. The great thing about this mask is that you can let it soak into your skin and leave it on overnight. You’ll wake up in the morning with fresh and hydrated skin!
So, that’s everything in my day + night skin care routines! I know it’s a lot, but I truly believe in investing in yourself and taking care of your skin! I also must note that a part of having beautiful, glowing skin is taking care of yourself on the inside, too. I drink about a gallon of water a day, am gluten & dairy free (for the most part), and only eat fish if I eat any meat at all. I work out regularly and try to limit my alcohol intake to just weekends and when I do drink, it’s usually wine or a vodka soda. I hope that helps and if you have any questions at all for me, please feel free to leave them in the comments below!
