My Absolute Favorite Matcha Latte Recipe

First of all, if you don’t know what matcha is, I’m not quite sure what planet you live on, because I’ve completely given up coffee for this stuff. Matcha is better than coffee for a few reasons: it’s not dehydrating, it has more antioxidants, and you don’t get that after-coffee crash. You may have seen my previous post on Matcha and all of it’s health benefits, but just in case you missed it, this is a more summed up version!

Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for about three weeks before harvest and the stems and veins are removed in processing. During shaded growth, the plant Camellia sinensis produces more theanine and caffeine. This combination of chemicals is considered to account for the calm energy people might feel from drinking matcha. The powdered form of matcha is consumed differently from tea leaves or tea bags, and is dissolved in a liquid, typically water or milk.” – source

Amongst its many health benefits, matcha…

  • Is packed with antioxidants including the powerful EGCg
  • Boosts metabolism and burns calories
  • Detoxifies effectively and naturally
  • Calms the mind and relaxes the body
  • Is rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins
  • Enhances mood and aids in concentration
  • Provides vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium
  • Prevents disease
  • Lowers cholesterol and blood sugar

  • 1 tsp organic matcha powder – I order this one from Amazon
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk – I use Almond Breeze or Trader Joe’s brand
  • 1/4 tsp organic vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp raw agave nectar

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender – I use my NutriBullet also bought on Amazon

  2. Put ice into a mason jar, pour ingredients in, put the lid on and go! If the matcha starts to settle, just shake it up a bit.
