Apps You Needed on your Phone, like, Yesterday

Having helpful apps on your phone can be a life saver (see how some covered me while in NYC here) and these apps are some that I cannot live without. I use about 15+ apps a day and think having such quick and easy access to online sites is the coolest thing, well, ever. So below are some that I’d like to share with you, and if you’re already using them, then great! If not, let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. Also – if there are any other must-have apps you can recommend, please do!

As much as I use my Sony a5000 camera, a lot of the times its easier and light-weight to just carry around my iPhone and take photos that way. To edit my photos, I use about 3 different apps – sometimes all at once too!  Below are my favorites and what they’re great for!

  • tuning image (adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness)
  • filters (my favorites are A4 & A6)

  • adjusting the brightness of the photo (great for night pictures) – love the brush tool!
  • tuning image (adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness)

  • whiting out background
  • smoothing out skin texture or blemishes

  • organizing your instagram feed (great app if you’re someone that likes a cohesive feed)

  • scheduling Instagram posts and when they’ll get the most reach

I am someone that always likes to have access to my funds, and that means being able to send and receive money using my phone. I also like to be able to invest my money and watch my investments on my phone as well. There are so many apps out there that make it easy for you these days, but these are my favorite.

  • Venmo is the easiest way to send money and to be honest, it’s currently how I pay rent! 😛 I also use it to pay my friends if I forget my wallet or we don’t want the hassle of splitting the check at a restaurant.

Bank of America

  • I personally bank through Bank of America and I don’t know what I would do without this app. With the touch of a button, I’m able to check my fund, cancel a card and order a new one. Seriously the easiest and most convenient app.

  • Acorns is a miricle app that invests your spare change into the stock market – amazing right?! So, if you spend $2.50 on a pack of gum – the app will round up to the nearest dollar and invest it for you! I learned about this little tip through one of my favorite travel bloggers Elona.

  • Recently, I purchased some crypto currency, and the app I use to manage it is Coinbase. Because it’s compatible with both Etherium and Bitcoin (what I bought), I’m able to manage them through the same app. They also host Bitcoin Cash & Litecoin.

With how much I’ve been traveling lately, I’ve been relying on a few super handy apps that I can’t travel without now.

Airline App

  • Lately, I’ve been flying American Airlines, but I always download whichever airline I travel with (why not? they’re free!) It makes it so much easier for me having everything right there on my phone: boarding pass, my itinerary, and flight updates. Honestly, so much less stressful when you have everything in one spot.

Sky Scanner

  • Another app I learned about through Elona. This app is perfect for finding the most inexpensive flights as well as booking spontaneous trips. You can search “Everywhere” and “Cheapest Month” and they’ll show you the cheapest place in the world to fly to!

  • I am such a Yelp-er these days (good and bad haha) and I find that I use this app when I’m traveling and at home. It’s so helpful for finding spots to eat in places you’ve never been before, and you can bookmark the ones you like so you can remember where they are!

  • OpenTable is one of my most used apps. I use it to find and book restaurant reservations and usually earn 100 points per res. Once you reach 2,000 pts you get $20, 5,000 pts you get $50, and 10,000 pts you get $100. This can be in the form of a dining credit to one of their restaurants or an Amazon gift card!
